One Quick Way to Remembering Your New Knock-It-Out-Of-The-Park Sales Pitch

Did you ever hear a great ice breaker but couldn't remember it when a potential buyer walked by your mall cart? Has a potential buyer stopped by your kiosk and you couldn't remember an important detail of your newest product? Do you want to quickly learn your new knock-it-out-of-the-park sales pitch to impress buyers? If you answered ‘yes’ to any or all of these questions, you are not alone and should keep on reading (and may learn some science stuff along the way).

Scientists are constantly studying how the human memory works and their research shows that taking a short nap after learning something new significantly improves your chances of learning success.

A team of neuropsychologists at Saarland University, conducted a test on 41 participants. The volunteers had to learn single words and word pairs. Half of them were allowed to sleep after the learning exercise while the other half watched a DVD. Guess what. The participants that had taken a nap were shown to have retained substantially more word pairs in memory than the participants in the control group who had watched a DVD.

But how does it work? First, sleep protects your new memories from all that new information you receive by being awake, and second, your hippocampus (you see?! you are learning some science stuff already!), a region of the brain, transfers what you just learned into your long-term memory storage.

So what? Well, the next time you want to memorize the details of a new product, your knock-it-out-of-the-park sales pitch, or some fun ice breakers, just take a short nap as soon as possible after memorizing it. You will wake up much refreshed and ready to go!
