How do you know if a worker is stealing? And what should you do?

I think one of my best sales reps is pocketing cash. What do I do? The most important thing you have to do is to react. Remember that not reacting is the worst action you can have, because it shows all your employees it is OK to steal from you.

If you suspect- you might be right. Here are some tips:

  1. If the cash is always 100% accurate at the till- someone is pocketing money!!
  2. Make sure you count the merchandise at the store at different times of the day.
  3. If you always count in the morning- be sure your goods will be “taken” immediately after that. Watch your employees during the day.
  4. Make sure they “spot” you and then go away.
  5. It will give them the understanding you are watching at all times.
  6. If you do find a thief- it is a must to get rid of them immediately.
  7. If a thief gets to keep on working- he/she will steal again. That is a fact.
